  1. Silen, William. Early Diagnosis of the Acute Abdomen, 20th ed., 2000. Oxford University Press. An excellent book that should be read by all physicians. It covers history, physical diagnosis and the thought process involved in making a diagnosis of abdominal pain.

     

  2. Cameron, John. Current Surgical Therapy, 6th ed., 1998. (7th ed. to be published in late 2001) Mosby, Inc. Not a textbook but a brief, problem-oriented summary of what to do once the diagnosis is made.
